APNGBC is very pleased to support the arrival of Businesses for Health: Tuberculosis (B4H:TB).
In 2015, there were over 6,000 cases of TB in the Port Moresby alone, and 33,000 new TB infections detected nationwide (WHO, 2016). With TB cases in PNG increasing in number, including a multi-drug resistant strain of TB, the time for action is now.
Papua New Guinea’s tuberculosis (TB) epidemic is causing an economic and humanitarian crisis, and we are here to engage the private sector in the national effort to stop the disease. Businesses for Health: TB will work with all private sector workplaces to reduce the impact of TB on your business and on the lives of your workers and their families.
This is a new initiative designed to help businesses establish their own TB activities. We will work with our expert friends at the National Department of Health, National TB Program, NCD Health Services, World Vision, private health providers, and the business councils of PNG to enable all private sector workers access to excellent TB services.
The Mission at Businesses for Health: Tuberculosis, is to train our members to identify every case of active TB in their workplace, to successfully support and complete the full course of treatment of every worker found to have TB, and to get him or her back to work in the shortest time possible.
B4H:TB Is the brainchild of the members of the Australia PNG Business Council whose members took their concerns about TB in their workplaces to our development partners at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. DFAT and the APNGBC then gained support from World Vision to host us during our seed funded stage. Our goal is to be fully supported by our members and sponsors from within Papua New Guinea’s business community.
B4H: TB is currently looking for sponsors, members, subscribers and program participants to help make this program a success, so please get involved and commit to a healthier and happier workplace, free of TB.
