The Pacific Contractors, Suppliers, and Consultants Road Shows, organised by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), are set to take place in October 2024 in both Sydney, Australia, and Auckland, New Zealand. These events aim to address challenges facing the global construction industry, which have impacted large-scale ADB-funded infrastructure projects in the Pacific region. The roadshows will offer a platform for contractors, suppliers, and project management firms to share insights on issues affecting their participation in these projects.
Key issues to be discussed include the impact of rising construction material costs, labour shortages, inflation, and supply chain disruptions, all of which have created hurdles for participation in ADB-funded initiatives. In light of these challenges, ADB is seeking input on how to update its practices related to project design, procurement evaluation methods, contract types, and risk distribution. ADB is particularly focused on aligning its operations with the Paris Agreement, ensuring that its projects contribute to sustainability objectives.
The roadshows, scheduled for October 21-22 in Sydney and October 24-25 in Auckland, will feature presentations on contractor participation and upcoming opportunities for 2024-2027. Sessions will cover a variety of topics, including market interest, procurement evaluation methods, contract terms, and sustainable procurement. These discussions aim to recalibrate ADB’s approach to attracting the right bidders and ensuring quality in the delivery of ADB-financed projects.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage in individual consultations, where they can share their views on key contract elements such as risk allocation, profit margins, and value engineering. The events are expected to help contractors and suppliers understand how ADB plans to make contract conditions more appealing, thereby encouraging greater participation in its projects.
The roadshows aim to engage contractors, suppliers, and project management firms in discussions on how to improve participation in ADB-funded infrastructure projects, with a focus on procurement evaluation, contract terms, and sustainable procurement practices.
