The inaugural Media Wind Down event, organised by the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum took place in Port Moresby on July 28, 2023. Designed as a meet-and-greet occasion under the theme “To Connect, Communicate and Collaborate,” the event successfully gathered public relations experts from the mining and petroleum sectors, journalists, and other interested participants for an engaging and informative evening.

Mr. Meriba Tulo, the Communications and Public Relations Manager for the Chamber, expressed satisfaction with the event’s turnout and seamless execution. This debut gathering, akin to the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Wind Down held in June, marked a triumphant initiation into the Chamber’s event calendar. Tulo highlighted that the Media Wind Down aimed to foster networking and camaraderie among communication professionals, cultivating stronger working relationships for enhanced industry collaboration.

Notable highlights of the event included guest speakers who shared insightful experiences and challenges as founders of local exploration companies and contributors to international volunteerism in Papua New Guinea. Koiti Mel, the Founder and Director of Munga River Limited, provided a glimpse into his role as a local geologist in the exploration field. Moses Mondowa, geologist and founder of Aiabba Minerals Limited, a subsidiary of the Canadian entity Apache-Abba Minerals Limited, added to the discourse.

Liz Mackinlay, representing Australian Business Volunteers (ABV), shared her experiences working in Papua New Guinea through a Zoom presentation from Sydney, Australia.

The monthly Chamber Wind Down gatherings serve as platforms for professionals within specific industries to convene, network, and address sector-specific issues. Additionally, these events offer potential members an opportunity to gain firsthand insights into the advantages of joining the Chamber.

ExxonMobil PNG received gratitude for sponsoring the July Media Wind Down event. The Chamber anticipates hosting its next gathering in the upcoming month.
