The National Executive Council (NEC) of Papua New Guinea has announced the appointment of the PNG Ports Corporation Limited (PNG Ports) Board of Directors led by Chairman Harvey Nii, with Belinda Manning making history as the first female director. The newly appointed Board is poised to shape the future of this crucial State Owned Enterprise (SOE) over the next three years.
The NEC’s decision, made on September 20 of this year, is the culmination of a meticulous selection process designed to ensure stability and growth for PNG Ports, a prominent player in the nation’s maritime sector.
The Board consists of a diverse group of individuals, each bringing a wealth of experience from both the private and public sectors. Chairman Harvey Nii, a seasoned lawyer, has served on the board for an impressive 11 years, with half of that time as Deputy Chairman. He expressed gratitude towards the NEC for entrusting him and his fellow directors with the responsibility of leading PNG Ports.
“On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank the NEC for having confidence in me and each of the Directors of this Board by giving us the opportunity to be a part of the success story of this performing SOE,” Mr. Nii stated during the official signing-in ceremony held at the PNG Ports Head Office in Port Moresby.
The Board comprises a mix of experienced directors, including re-appointed members Joe Holloway and George Gware, as well as newcomers Belinda Manning and Glen Darnley-Stuart. They join fellow Director Maxwell Paiya, whose term remains active following his appointment two years ago.
Belinda Manning’s appointment marks a significant milestone as she becomes the first female director to serve on the PNG Ports Board. Her swearing-in ceremony took place at the PNG Ports head office on Tuesday, October 10, before Magistrate Seth Tanei.
Ms. Manning, a highly experienced Digital Transformation Advocate, will contribute her strategic and execution skills to the Board’s mission. Her expertise encompasses Project Management, Risk Management, Business Development, Policy Development, Human Resources, and a strong track record of driving digital transformation in the financial services sector.
Currently employed as the Chief Transformation Officer of Finance Corporation Limited, Ms. Manning’s appointment coincides with PNG Ports’ ambitious port redevelopment plans. These plans aim to address aging port facilities, enhance security and surveillance, promote a ‘green port’ concept, and implement digital transformational systems to streamline existing processes, positioning PNG Ports in the smart and green port space.
As the new Board takes charge, the collective experience and dedication of its members are expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the objectives and mission of PNG Ports, driving development for the organization, the industry, and the country at large.
