In response to the latest shocking HIV report, the B4H: TB & HIV project has taken proactive steps to combat the HIV crisis in Papua New Guinea by planning a one-day HIV workshop titled “Positive Pathways to End HIV in PNG.”

The situation in Papua New Guinea is dire, with over 72,000 people currently living with HIV, all requiring lifelong treatment. According to the 2023 UNAIDS snapshot, a staggering 6,500 new HIV infections were recorded, representing a significant 91% increase compared to the 2021 report. Perhaps even more distressing is the fact that the same snapshot reported 1,100 AIDS-related deaths in 2023, marking a shocking 120% increase from the numbers reported in 2021. It is important to note that treatment can prevent many of these deaths.
The B4H: TB & HIV project is calling on businesses to send representatives to their upcoming workshop. The goal is to reinvigorate workplace HIV prevention efforts and raise awareness about the TB and HIV crises. To show solidarity and support, they are encouraging everyone to wear red on World AIDS Day, which falls on December 1.
The message from the B4H: TB & HIV project is clear: “Yes, we can end TB AND HIV in PNG!” This workshop represents a crucial step toward that goal and an opportunity for businesses and individuals to join the fight against HIV in Papua New Guinea.
