The Australia Pacific Islands Business Council, Australia Papua New Guinea Business Council and Australia Fiji Business Council participated in the Pacific Business Councils Roundtable, hosted by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra on 18 June.
Chaired by Deputy Secretary Elizabeth Peak, the biannual forum brings together government and business leaders to strengthen collaboration on trade, investment and private sector engagement across the Pacific.
Leata Alaimoana-Roberts, recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of the three Councils, addressed the meeting and outlined the important role the business community plays in supporting sustainable economic development and deeper commercial partnerships throughout the region.
Deputy Secretary Peak welcomed Ms Alaimoana-Roberts to her new role and acknowledged the significant contribution of former Executive Director Frank Yourn, thanking him for his many years of dedicated service to advancing Australia’s business relationships across the Pacific.
The Roundtable provides an important mechanism for ongoing dialogue between government and the private sector, ensuring business perspectives help inform Australia’s engagement with Pacific partners and identify opportunities to strengthen regional trade, investment and economic resilience.
